In their penultimate preparatory match before the tournament commences, the Oranje tested their might against Canada and as expected, stamped their authority from the onset.

After a frustrating first half, Ronald Koeman's men finally broke the game's deadlock ten minutes after recess. Frimpong put a delicious cross into the box, which was met by Memphis.

While the goal was basically routine stuff, it was the celebration after the strike that caught the fancy on the internet as the duo channelled the inner Ghanaian in them.

Depay, who often spends his vacation in the West African country, outdoored the 'Adowa' celebration in Atletico Madrid's maiden La Liga game of the 2023–24 season against Granada back on August 14, 2023, as noted by Myjoyonline.

And he wasted no time in sharing with the world his rich cultural heritage, utilizing his hand and feet in synchronized movements before being joined by Frimpong, who also has Ghanaian parentage.

Seven minutes later, the provider, Frimpong, turned scorer, firing a magnificent shot into the top left corner to bring daylight between the two sides, per EverthingGP.

Former Manchester United striker, Wout Werghorst, then made it three, benefiting from a rebound to tuck home from inside the box before Virgil Van Dijk put the icing on the cake with the fourth and final goal of the tie.

Memphis discloses meaning behind his celebration

In a previous publication, Sports Brief reported that Memphis Depay disclosed the inspiration behind his celebratory dance during the La Liga opener against Granada—it was a tribute to the King of Ashantis in Ghana, Otumuo Osei Tutu II.

Depay's distinctive dance involved a fluid motion of his arms from right to left, followed by a reverent gesture of tapping his chest.

He shared that he dedicated his goal to Otumfuo as a mark of respect for the significance the King holds in Ghana, a country with familial ties as his father originates from there.
