Harry Maguire has released a statement confirming he is set to miss his first-ever major tournament under Gareth Southgate.

The 31-year-old shared an emotional message on social media saying he would not be part of Gareth Southgate’s squad as he was unable to recover from a stubborn calf injury in time.

"I am devastated not to have been selected to play for England at the Euros this summer. Despite my best efforts, I have not been able to overcome an injury to my calf,” he revealed.

Maguire added his next course of action would be to ‘return to the supervision of the Manchester United medical team’.

News of Maguire’s injury setback will be a massive blow to Southgate, who has always had the centre-back in his squad during major tournaments.

Notably, he was an integral part of England’s success at Euro 2020, as they reached the final on home soil.

The former Hull City star played 31 times for United in the 2023/2024 season and featured for The Three Lions in two friendly matches - against Scotland and England.

His domestic season had to come to an end early, however, due to a muscle injury.

Who else misses out on England squad?

Elsewhere, talkSPORT reported that Tottenham star James Maddison and Liverpool’s Curtis Jones have left the England camp after learning they were not part of the 26-man final squad.

But perhaps the biggest shocker comes in the form of Manchester City’s Jack Grealish.

ESPN reports that the other stars set to be sent home are Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah and Burnley's James Trafford.

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite is the seventh player set to miss out, meaning Luke Shaw makes the cut despite the defender's injury woes.

Bournemouth defender linked to Man United

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported on a Bournemouth defender linked to Manchester United.

His name is Milos Kerkez, a highly-rated Hungarian who is wanted by the Red Devils as a backup for Shaw.

He progressed through the youth ranks in various clubs across Europe, including Rapid Vienna and AC Milan, before eventually joining Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in 2022.
