The stage is set for an electrifying clash at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, where the Super Eagles of Nigeria will face off against South Africa's Bafana Bafana in the third round of the FIFA World Cup qualification series.

The lead-up to this pivotal match has been heightened by discussions of revenge for the South African team, given that the last two competitive encounters between the sides have ended in victories for the Super Eagles.

However, Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, has dismissed these notions of revenge, emphasising that his team's sole focus is on securing three points to strengthen their bid for their first World Cup appearance since 2002.

Broos refutes Bafana’s revenge claims

Speaking to the media ahead of the fixture, as reported by iol.co.za, the septuagenarian coach dismissed talks of revenge and outlined his team’s objectives against Nigeria.

"We want to get a good result against Nigeria because this is a World Cup qualifier, and we are not thinking about revenge," said the Belgian coach.

The former Cameroon coach further emphasised that regardless of the outcome against Nigeria, his team remains focused on securing a spot at the 2026 World Cup:

"Losing the game shouldn't be a disaster because we still have six more games to play. But, of course, I would rather not lose to Nigeria. We know a lot about them, but they also know a lot about us."

According to reports courtesy of Fotmob, the South African team will host Zimbabwe just days after the clash with the Super Eagles on June 10.

Super Eagles star speaks on Bafana’s revenge mission
