Emi Martinez has seemingly clapped back at Kylian Mbappe's recent comments about the UEFA European Championship being much harder to win than the FIFA World Cup.

The French star expressed these sentiments ahead of Euro 2024, where Les Bleus will be chasing its first title since 2000.

The new Real Madrid forward will captain France when they face the Netherlands, Poland, and Austria in Group D action.

Having won the World Cup in 2018, Mbappe avered that winning the Euros wasn't as easy due to the teams' familiarity.

"For me, the Euros is more complicated than the World Cup. Even though there is much more pressure at the World Cup, here all the teams know each other, we play against each other all the time. Tactically it’s very similar football," he said, as reported by Sports Brief.

Argentina's World Cup-winning goalkeeper Martinez has now appeared to rubbish the claims in an interview with TyC Sports' Gaston Edul.

"There is nothing more difficult than a World Cup," he remarked.

Emi Martinez vs Kylian Mbappe

Martinez's 'feud' with Mbappe was well documented during the 2022 World Cup final, where despite the latter scoring a hat-trick, Argentina emerged as champions.

The Aston Villa goalkeeper was the penalty shootout hero to help his teammate, Lionel Messi, complete football. He afterwards repeatedly taunted the French star and France fans with lewd gestures.

He was recently treated to deafening boos when he played French side, Lille, in the UEFA Conference League.

The former Arsenal custodian will be hoping to lead La Albiceleste to back-to-back Copa America titles. Messi's side play Peru, Chile, and Canada in Group A.

Mbappe dedicated goal to family member

Sports Brief has also reported that Mbappe dedicated his goal for France to a late family member after scoring against Luxembourg on June 5.

Deschamps' side ramped up preparations for the Euro 2024 with a comfortable win against the European minnows, as they aim for glory at the Euros.
