Ghana defender, Mohammed Salisu, believes the Black Stars can beat Mali in Bamako ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on June 6, 2024.

The Black Stars arrived in Mali on Tuesday evening and will train on Wednesday at the Stade du 26 Mars ahead of the Group I headliner on Thursday.

Ghana are hoping to recover from a defeat to Comoros on matchday 2 as they prepare for the Eagles of Mali.

Salisu, who missed the first two games of the qualifiers due to an injury, remains confident and believes the team is good enough to beat their West African rivals.

"I think this game is very important for every Ghanaian. It is a World Cup qualifier and we know how important it is for Ghanaians. We have good young players and Ghanaians need to believe the young players and we can do it better," he told reporters at the Black Stars training in Legon, as quoted by Ghana Soccernet.
"We know it's not going to be easy. Mali has a strong team, we have to train day by day and hopefully, we will win this game," he added.

The four-time African champions have been to the World Cup three times with their best performance being in South Africa 2010, when they became the third African country to reach the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars have struggled in recent times and remain winless in 2024.

Ghana were eliminated at the group stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast early this year, as reported by the BBC.

Salisu apologises to Ghanaians after AFCON exit

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Black Stars defender Salisu shared his disappointment following Ghana's early Africa Cup of Nations exit in Cote d'Ivoire.

The AS Monaco star also took the opportunity to apologise to the media for his actions after the game against Mozambique in Abidjan.

Ghana were knocked out of the 2023 AFCON after failing to win a game in Group B of the tournament.
