Finidi George and his Super Eagles team are currently not enjoying the dream training camp they had hoped for ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture against South Africa.

The West African football powerhouse, who only just navigated the hurdle of a flurry of players included in the squad pulling out due to a wave of injuries alongside the delayed arrival of other players due to the nationwide strike between June 3 and 4, are reported to have been hit with one of the attackers of the team.

According to a recent report from OwnGoalNigeria, AC Milan forward, Samuel Chukwueze, has suffered a minor relapse to his thigh injury during the team's evening training session on June 4.

Chukwueze suffers a minor injury

According to the report, the 25-year-old was excused from the team's training session held at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium training complex.

The former Villarreal forward had been speculated to be doubtful for the qualification fixture, as he suffered a thigh injury that kept him out of most of Milan's final fixtures of the recently concluded season.

The report, however, stresses that the forward could recover in time for the clash against South Africa. Nevertheless, if he misses out on the fixture, he will definitely be in the matchday squad for the second fixture of the Nigerian team against Benin Republic.

The fleet-footed star, who has amassed over 35 caps for the Nigerian team, last featured for the Super Eagles during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final in Ivory Coast, according to data courtesy of FotMob.
