Kylian Mbappe has admitted that he feels relieved to have left Paris Saint-Germain and joined Real Madrid after enduring a difficult year in his final season with the French club.

Los Blancos announced the signing on Monday, two days after winning their record-extending 15th UEFA Champions League title, beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at Wembley Stadium.

They finally got their man three years after starting the process of acquiring him. He came in on a free transfer after deciding against renewing his PSG contract.

The decision to leave the capital club for free was the genesis of his problems in his final year. The France national captain has opened up on how things went.

Mbappe, who is on international duty ahead of Euro 2024 later this month, shared insights into his final season in his hometown club, via BBC Sports.

"At PSG, I wasn’t unhappy; that would be biting the hand that feeds you and spitting in the face of all the people who defended me, but things and people made me unhappy."
"There are things that you can’t show because I was a leader, and you don't follow someone who drags their sadness around," he added.

The 25-year-old was left out of the club’s pre-season tour of Japan, and he admitted that if not for the intervention of Luis Campos and Luis Enrique, he might not have played for the club again.

Despite being reintegrated into the team at the start of the season, all was not well between the player and the club, and according to L’Equipe, a legal battle could happen.

The club reportedly stopped paying the former Monaco star’s salary at the end of March after paying his €80 million loyalty bonus in February, despite the initial agreement to waive it.

Both sides are holding on to being right on the incident, and if not resolved, Ligue 1’s legal commission could step in.
