South African playmaker, Nhlanhla Mgaga, is reportedly set to leave Stellenbosch FC on a free transfer this summer, with Orlando Pirates his preferred destination.

The Soweto Giants are looking to add to their attacking options next season as they prepare to dethrone Mamelodi Sundowns as DStv Premiership champions.

Mgaga made 26 appearances for Stellies this season as they finished third in the PSL table, but the club has decided against the option of extending his deal.

Kaizer Chiefs were close to signing Mgaga in 2022, but the midfielder opted for a move to Stellenbosch, where he spent just two seasons.

According to a report by the South African, as per Soccer Laduma, the Buccaneers are closing in on the former Baroka midfielder amid interest from the Glamour Boys.

The 28-year-old midfielder's contract with the Maroons will end this month and he will join a new team on a free transfer.

The Bucs have released a few players this summer and will be busy in the transfer market as they compete in four competitions in the 2024-25 season.

Pirates will want their strongest possible team as they head into the CAF Champions League next campaign.

Sports Brief also previously reported that former Bucs striker, Bruce Ramokgadi, bashing Pirates boss, Jose Riveiro, saying he would never lead the club to a league trophy.

The Sea Robbers hired the Spaniard in June 2022 with the hope that he would end their long wait for a DSTv Premiership title, leading them to a second-place finish.

At the conclusion of the current campaign, Orlando Pirates finished with 54 points, 16 behind Mamelodi Sundowns, who lifted their sixth straight DStv Premiership crown.
