Ahead of Friday's crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, South Africa's Iqraam Rayners has sent a strong message to the star-studded Nigerian national team.

The Super Eagles will host Bafana Bafana in the third round of the qualifying series at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on June 7.

Having drawn their first two matches, the third-placed Nigeria have just two points, one behind South Africa, while Rwanda top the group with four points.

However, it will be a totally different ball game when Bafana Bafana visit the three-time African champions.

South African manager, Hugo Broos, has named in-form players for the cracker and striker, Rayners, believes his side will not lose the game.

The Stellenbosch star maintained that his side would leave the West African nation with at least a point. The 28-year-old said, as per Sowetan Live:

"If we can’t win, we must at least get a point in Nigeria. Like the coach said, he wants four points from these two games but we will try to get six points… This is football and anything can happen: we might steal the game in the last minutes in Nigeria."

South Africa will host Zimbabwe at the Free State Stadium four days after the game against the Eagles.

Nigeria, on the other hand, will head to Ivory Coast, where they will take on the Republic of Benin. The Squirrels play their qualifying games away from home due to a lack of a CAF/FIFA-approved stadium.

Broos downplays Eagles' threat

Sports Brief also previously reported that Hugo Broos has downplayed Nigeria's threat and the danger posed by the other teams in their qualifying group.

The make-or-break clash between both African football powerhouses is finely poised to significantly influence both sides' paths in the qualification series.

However, Broos appears to have undying trust in his team's abilities and stressed his belief in his side to hold their own against the trickiest opposition.
