Kaizer Chiefs are on the hunt for a permanent manager, as they look to return to the lofty heights they attained in past seasons.

The Glamour Boys had themselves a season to forget after finishing 10th place in the DSTV Premiership standings.

The Johannesburg-based club hierarchy have been linked with a flurry of coaching targets including Pitso Mosimane, Benni McCarthy, and former Egypt manager, Rui Vitoria, to lead the team ahead of the next season.

However, amid these numerous names linked to the coaching role of the DSTV Premiership club, a report from thesouthafrican.com has stated that those in the club's hierarchy could fancy the appointment of a Portuguese coach.

Kaizer Chiefs to hire Portuguese coach?

According to the report, the South African footballing giants are keen on the appointment of Alexandre Santos.

The 47-year-old, who was most recently in charge of Angolan club, Atlético Petroleos de Luanda, is reported to be open to taking over the role.

As reported by Soccer Laduma, the former SC Braga assistant coach is said to have held talks with the Chiefs' hierarchy, and the Glamour Boys are expected to make a decision on the Portuguese gaffer in the coming days.

Santos, who won six trophies in three years at Petro de Luanda, including three league titles, has previously served as an assistant coach at Portuguese League giant FC Porto and Egyptian side Al Ahly.

Kaizer Chiefs' most recent silverware was the 2015 DStv Premiership title, which they won under former Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter. Since then, they have struggled to keep pace with Sundowns and other title-challenging teams.

Key issues Kaizer Chiefs must address

Sports Brief in another report stated that former Amakhosi star, David Kannemeyer, listed, four issues Kaizer Chiefs must address to become a top club again.

Kannemeyer named scouting, culture, philosophy, and overall planning as the main issues preventing the club from competing consistently.
