Grant Kekana was forced to leave the camp with a hamstring injury, while reports indicate that a few other Sundowns stars are dealing with light injuries.

As reported by Sowetan LIVE, the national team coach suggested that the Brazilians’ medical team are dropping the ball when it comes to the players.

Broos questions the nature of player’s injuries

While the Belgian conceded that Masandawana’s players played more games and were more likely to get injured, he also questioned the nature of some of the injuries.

"Sundowns had many injuries this season, and everybody knows that one of the reasons is certainly the overloaded programme.
"They played a lot of games, but what is interesting is that 75% of these injuries are groin and hamstring injuries, and I think there has to be something more than that," he said.

He expressed hope that the medical staff of Sundowns could find the reasons, as he felt that the problem would continue next season.

"They will have the same overloaded programme: they will play PSL, MTN8, Champions League, and there's even World Cup for the clubs at the end of the season. I am a little bit worried because, in September, October and November, we probably have the qualifiers for AFCON."

Sundowns congested fixture list

The Brazilians have had a successful but busy season across numerous fronts.

They competed in the African Football League, CAF Champions League, DStv Premiership, Nedbank Cup, Carling Knockout, and MTN 8.

OptaJabu reported that they played a total of 57 games across the season.

Kekana replaced by Msimango in Bafana squad

Sports Brief also reported how Broos has replaced Kekana with Kaizer Chiefs’ Given Msimango in the national team squad.

Broos named his 23-man squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Zimbabwe before Kekana was injured.

The Sundowns’ centre-back, who has been a crucial member of the squad, was released after picking up a hamstring injury.
