Real Madrid effortlessly reclaimed the Spanish title from Barcelona this season, and after securing a record 15th Champions League trophy, their acquisition of world football's biggest star, Kylian Mbappe, deepens their rivals' woes.

The addition of Mbappe to an already star-studded lineup signals a bold ambition from Los Blancos and threatens to shift the domestic balance of power even more decisively in Madrid's favour.

Meanwhile, Barcelona, struggling with severe self-inflicted financial issues, finds itself unable to compete in the escalating arms race with Madrid.

Mbappe joined Real Madrid for free after his PSG contract ended, a move Barcelona couldn't afford due to his high salary and sign-on fee.

Over the past decade, Barca wasted hundreds of millions on failed signings like Coutinho, Dembele, and Griezmann, while maintaining a sky-high wage bill.

Madrid's financial strength is evident as they already have Vinicius Junior, who plays in the same left-wing position, making Mbappe a luxury addition. Coach Carlo Ancelotti will need to adjust his attack, possibly sidelining Rodrygo Goes.

However, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez views Mbappe as the final piece to complement their refurbished Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

Recently, Barcelona have settled for loan signings and out-of-contract veterans. They failed to replace veteran midfielder Sergio Busquets last summer, leading to defensive issues.

In contrast, Real Madrid's acquisition of Mbappe and young stars like Jude Bellingham positions them for long-term dominance in La Liga.

To respond, Barcelona might target Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams for their attack, with his 50 million euro release clause being more affordable.

However, significant signings would require Barcelona to offload players to balance their finances, risking squad depth and balance.

Brace for impact

The Catalans hope Mbappe's superstar status might disrupt Madrid's harmony, with Ancelotti needing time to fit him into the system.

Financially strained, Barcelona relies on La Masia's talents like Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi to compete with Madrid's spending. Mbappe has already hurt Barcelona, scoring twice to knock them out of the Champions League in April and netting six goals in four games against them.

Other Spanish sides will be dreading Mbappe's impact too.

With Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo's goalscoring exploits in the past, it has been eight years since any player has scored 40 league goals, but Mbappe has the capacity.

Opponents will likely sit deeper and deeper against Madrid to stop Mbappe and Vinicius vaporising them on the counter-attack, as they so often did against Barcelona in their heyday under Pep Guardiola.

Now the Catalans are bracing themselves for what Madrid and Perez hope will be a similar era of glittering success rather than another failed Galactico experiment.

Achraf Hakimi bids Mbappe farewell

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on PSG defender, Achraf Hakimi, sending Mbappe a farewell message.

Following the French star's departure, the Moroccan star expressed love for his French ex-teammate.
