The lead-up to the fixture between Nigeria and South Africa continues to dominate headlines, with players and stakeholders from both camps expressing confidence in their teams' ability to secure victory.

Both African football powerhouses lock horns in another instalment of their rivalry in the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualification series, months after the highly pulsating match they treated fans to in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

However, ahead of the fixture, shot-stopper Stanley Nwabali has expressed confidence in Nigeria's chances of clinching victory against Bafana Bafana.

Nwabali speaks on Nigeria vs South Africa clash

In an interview with Lagos Talks FM, the AFCON breakout star emphasised the importance of Nigeria securing victory and highlighted the strengths of coach, Finidi George's squad ahead of the game.

"Football is the same everywhere, but with the kind of players we have, I don't think we'll face any challenges, especially in our group. But you can never predict football."

Speaking about South African players, Nwabali said,

"I know them. We have good players in our country too, so I'm not talking down on those guys; they are good in their own style of play."

Further expressing confidence in his teammates' abilities, the Chippa United goalkeeper stated,

"I'm not worried about them because if we can come together, they cannot match us."

Currently sitting third in Group C, Nigeria will host Bafana Bafana on June 7 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. Nwabali, who played a key role the last time both teams met, hopes to lead the Super Eagles to another victory.

The 27-year-old shot-stopper recorded 10 clean sheets in his 23 league appearances for Chippa United in the recently concluded season, according to data from Fotmob.

Boniface leads early arrivals at Super Eagles camp

Sports Brief also previously reported that Bayer Leverkusen's Victor Boniface was among the first to arrive at Nigeria’s camp ahead of their clash against South Africa.

The star forward is currently in the national team's camp with 15 other Super Eagles players, while coach Finidi awaits the arrival of seven more stars in days to come.
