The buildup to the pivotal FIFA World Cup qualification match between Nigeria and South Africa is intensifying as numerous Nigerian players continue to arrive at camp.

This high-stakes encounter, crucial for both African football powerhouses in their quest for an automatic ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marks the first meeting between the two teams since their thrilling 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final clash.

However, amidst the growing excitement and talks emanating from both camps, a report from the Nigeria Super Eagles on social media has surfaced, detailing the number of players currently present in the team's camp.

Super Eagles players present in camp

According to the report, 16 of the 23 players invited by coach Finidi George are currently present in camp and participated in the team's training on Sunday, June 2.

Portuguese-based defender Chidozie Awaziem and Royal Antwerp midfielder Alhassan Yusuf were the latest arrivals at the Super Eagles training camp.

Seven more players are expected to join as preparations intensify for the crucial clash against South Africa on matchday three of the World Cup qualifiers.

Finidi's side will be without notable attackers, including Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, and Bayer Leverkusen’s Nathan Tella for the upcoming games against Bafana Bafana and Benin.

The 16 players currently in camp are Wilfred Ndidi, Terem Moffi, Stanley Nwabali, Alhassan Yusuf, Ibrahim Olawoyin, Benjamin Tanimu, Kenneth Igboke, Chidozie Awaziem, Kelechi Iheanacho, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Samuel Chukwueze, Ismaila Sadiq, Ojo Olorunleke, Benjamin Tanimu, Victor Boniface, Raphael Onyedika, and Frank Onyeka.

According to data from Fotmob, Coach Finidi will aim to secure Nigeria's first win against South Africa in 90 minutes since 2019.

Finidi makes changes to Nigeria’s squad

In another report, Sports Brief noted that Coach Finidi has made adjustments to Nigeria's squad for the World Cup qualification games.

The 53-year-old had to alter the lineup following Tella's withdrawal from the team.
