Real Madrid icon, Karim Benzema, has named the player he believes should win the 2024 Ballon d'Or award. The race for the prize is heating up, with several contenders vying for the top spot.

The Spanish giants, having clinched both the UEFA Champions League and La Liga titles this season, are strong candidates to produce the next winner of the coveted 'golden ball' award.

Los Blancos dominated the Spanish league, finishing the season with an impressive 95 points, a full 10 points ahead of their rivals, Barcelona, in second.

Real Madrid's remarkable season culminated on June 1, when they triumphed in the Champions League final.

They defeated a formidable Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at Wembley Stadium, with goals from Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Jr sealing their victory.

As reported by CNN, this win marked Real Madrid's record-extending 15th European title.

Benzema backs Vinicius Jr to win Ballon d'Or

Despite Jude Bellingham being considered a frontrunner for the Ballon d'Or after a stellar debut season at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, Karim Benzema has a different opinion.

The Frenchman expressed his thoughts on Instagram, sharing a photo of Vinicius Junior scoring in the Champions League final with the caption:

"Ballon d'Or 💫,"

Vinicius ended the season with an impressive record, tallying 24 goals and 10 assists across 39 appearances for Real Madrid.

However, the Brazilian is sure to face stiff competition from Bellingham in his hope of winning one of football's most prestigious individual honours.

Kylian Mbappe is also in the frame to challenge for the award after an amazing final season with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Frenchman is predicted to join Los Blancos in the summer after calling time on his spell at Parc des Princes.

Vini matches Lionel Messi record

Earlier, Sports Brief also reported on Vini Jr. matching Lionel Messi's record in the Champions League.

The Brazilian joined an elite club in the top-tier competition after his goal against Borussia Dortmund.
