Jurgen Klopp's men welcome Manchester United to Anfield on Sunday, January 17 for their EPL clash with both teams battling for superiority on the table.

The Merseyside outfit trail the Red Devils with three points heading into the encounter but the 57-year-old is not worried about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men despite their impressive form so far this season, Barnes does not regard the Old Trafford dwellers as serious title contenders.

According to the retired footballer, Pep Guardiola's side is the only team with enough quality to contend for the crown along with Klopp's men.

Barnes told BonusCodeBets as cited by Metro UK.

"Liverpool are not in direct competition with Manchester United in my opinion. Liverpool are only in competition with Manchester City for the title. In reality, in terms of the favourites to win the league, it is whoever finishes higher than Liverpool or Manchester City.

Barnes's assertion came just days after United legend Gary Neville said his former side are clear frontrunners for the Premier League title.

Neville made the claim shortly after Man United's hard-fought win over struggling Burnley earlier in the week.

Paul Pogba scored the only goal of the match that separated the two sides at Turf Moor as the Manchester club went top of the table with 36 points.

Liverpool, who are yet to lose a league match at Anfield since 2017 will be looking to cart home all the three points when they play the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer-tutored side.

However, they will be wary of United's impressive form on the road as they are unbeaten in 15 away league fixtures.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Bruno Fernandes is the latest Manchester United player to lament their ouster from the EFL Cup at the semifinal stage.

The Red Devils suffered a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City courtesy of goals from John Stones and Fernandinho in the second half.

And the Portuguese-born attacker has called on his teammates to step up their game ahead of their FA Cup third-round meeting with Watford FC at Old Trafford his weekend.
