This season, clubs like Manchester United, Tottenham, and Chelsea made headlines due to the absence of key players.

However, none of these teams are among the top five most affected by injuries in terms of total days missed in the 2023-24 season.

While the impact of injuries varies depending on the players involved, Sports Brief looks at the five Premier League teams with the highest number of days lost to injuries.

5. Bournemouth – 882 days

Bournemouth’s players missed a combined total of 882 days due to injuries in the 2023-24 season. Tyler Adams was a significant absentee, arriving injured and missing much of the season.

The US international underwent a second hamstring surgery in October, after a previous operation in March 2023, sidelining him until February.

Upon his return, he dealt with back issues and ended the campaign with just three league appearances. Another summer signing, Max Aarons, missed 18 games due to hamstring injuries.

4. Arsenal – 898 days

Arsenal faced numerous injury challenges, with their players missing a total of 898 days.

The Gunners suffered a major blow when Jurrien Timber sustained an ACL injury on the opening weekend, only returning for the final game of the season.

Fabio Vieira underwent groin surgery, while Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey also faced ongoing issues. Partey missed five months with a hamstring injury and was sidelined earlier in the season due to a groin complaint, making just nine league starts.

3. Nottingham Forest – 1068 days

Nottingham Forest had over 1000 days lost to injuries. Taiwo Awoniyi’s fitness struggles continued as he underwent groin surgery and had another stint on the sidelines.

Awoniyi has started just 29 league games over two seasons, scoring 16 goals.

Wily Boly's experience was missed due to injuries, and both Neco Williams and Ola Aina also had significant absences.

2. Aston Villa – 1236 days

Aston Villa secured a top-four finish and Champions League qualification despite having the second-worst injury record.

Tyrone Mings and Emi Buendia missed almost the entire season with ACL injuries, and Boubacar Kamara suffered a serious knee problem in February, requiring surgery. Jacob Ramsey made only eight league starts due to foot and toe injuries.

1. Burnley – 1290 days

Burnley, relegated from the Premier League in 2023-24, were the team most affected by injuries, with players missing a combined 1290 days.

Key players like Jordan Beyer, Nathan Redmond, and Aaron Ramsey suffered serious knee injuries that curtailed their seasons. Hjalmar Ekdal’s debut season was plagued by knee issues, and Manuel Benson, who scored 13 goals in all competitions last season, managed just 110 minutes in the Premier League due to injury setbacks.

These teams endured significant challenges due to injuries, affecting their performances and outcomes in the 2023-24 season.
