Petro Atletico de Luanda officially announced the departure of their head coach Alexandre Santos, marking the end of a highly successful tenure.

Santos, whose contract has expired, leaves behind a legacy of remarkable achievements, having led the Angolan giants to three consecutive Girabola league titles, two Angolan Cups, and a Super Cup over three years.

Before the Portuguese's arrival, Os Tricolores had not secured a league title since 2009.

His leadership not only ended this drought but also reinvigorated the club, which had been overshadowed by Primeiro de Agosto's dominance. The 47-year-old's success has made him a highly sought-after figure, with rumours linking him to clubs like Kaizer Chiefs, Simba SC, and Wydad Athletic Club. However, Santos has yet to disclose his next career move.

Per iDiski Times, Ricardo Chéu, formerly of the second-tier Portuguese club Oliveirense, will succeed Santos at Petro de Luanda. Chéu has signed a one-year contract with an option for extension, aiming to continue the momentum built by his compatriot.

In an official statement, Petro de Luanda expressed gratitude to Santos, praising his commitment and dedication.

"Petro Atletico announces the end of the contractual relationship with professional football coach Alexandre Santos, at the end of the current sporting season, having been the coach's own decision, for professional reasons," as reported by Goal.

The statement highlighted the club's accomplishments under Santos, including three Girabola championships, two Angolan Cups, a Super Cup, and consistent performances in the African Champions League, reaching the semi-finals in the 2021/2022 season and the quarter-finals in the current season.

Santos's availability on the market coincides with other significant movements in the coaching landscape. Notably, Pitso Mosimane, linked to Chiefs, is also set to become a free agent following Abha Club's relegation from the Saudi Pro League.

Kaizer Chiefs to make new appointments

Sports Brief reported Kaizer Chiefs could enter a new dawn next season following reports that no fewer than seven appointments would be made.

Molefi Nteski's appointment was criticised and was unpopular due to his lack of a positive track record.

Before he was appointed Chiefs' senior team coach, he had never handled a professional side at that level.
