Ghana legend, Michael Essien, has picked his favourite to win the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, June 1.

The former Chelsea midfielder won the 2011/12 Champions League with the English club after losing in his first final against Manchester United in 2008.

He joined Real Madrid a year after winning the competition with Chelsea before eventually leaving England to move to Italy, where he joined AC Milan.

The 41-year-old returned to London this week to join other legends from the pre-UEFA Champions League final events, where together with former players predicted the scoreline of tonight's game.

In a video shared on social media, Essien believes his former club Real Madrid will emerge victors while also predicting a 2-1 result.

Real Madrid are the most successful club in European football with 14 UCL titles and will be hoping to make it a 15th triumph against the German outfit.

Dortmund are returning to the final for the first time in ten years after losing to Bayern Munich in the 2013/14 season, as reported by EuroSport.

Mourinho opens up on relationship with Essien

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Chelsea and AS Roma manager, Jose Mourinho opened up on his affection for African players and his relationship with Michael Essien.

The Ghanaian star and the Portuguese gaffer had a father-son relationship, having worked together at both Chelsea and Real Madrid.

Essien often referred to Mourinho as his father, having worked with him for several years of his career.

Essien celebrates Simon Adingra after AFCON success

Sports Brief also reported that Ghanaian football icon, Michael Essien extended his congratulations to Simon Adingra, a product of the Right to Dream Academy, for his pivotal role in Ivory Coast's triumph at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Adingra, currently plying his trade for Brighton in the English Premier League, showcased his talent by starting for the Elephants in the AFCON final against the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Sunday night at Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara.

Demonstrating remarkable skill and performance, the 22-year-old played a significant role throughout the match, providing crucial assists for Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller to score in the second half.
