The 2023/24 club football season in many countries across the globe has been concluded.

African footballers made their presence felt by scoring goals, creating goals and winning trophies with their clubs.

This past season, African Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen, was outscored by many players following a forgettable season at Napoli.

Serhou Guirassy, Victor Boniface, and Abderazzak Hamdallah, were the standout performers in the 2023/24 season.

Boniface had a historic season with Bayer Leverkusen, which won its first Bundesliga title in style. Xabi Alonso's team won it without tasting defeat.

Another African star, Ademola Lookman, ended their 51-game unbeaten run in the Europa League final with an incredible hat-trick. Here are the top 10 African goal scorers from the 2023/24 season.

African top scorers 2023/24

10. Paul Onuachu, Mame Thiam, Nicolas Jackson, Victor Osimhen- 17 goals

Onuachu scored 17 goals for Turkish side Trabzonspor and was the leading African scorer in the Turkish Super Lig. Unfortunately, he missed out on the 2023 AFCON.

Thiam also scored 17 goals in the Super Lig for Kayserispor and Pendikspor, but he hasn't played for Senegal in a while.

Another Senegalese, Nicolas Jackson, had a decent first season at Chelsea. He scored 17 goals in 44 appearances.

9. Victor Osimhen - 18 goals

The African Footballer of the Year had a tough year at Napoli. He scored 15 Serie A goals, relinquishing the Golden Boot he won last campaign. He scored once at the 2023 AFCON for Nigeria and 18 for his club in the 2023/24 season.

8. Ademola Lookman - 20 goals

The Nigerian grabbed the headlines following his hat-trick in the Europa League final. The 26-year-old scored 16 goals in 44 appearances for Atalanta. He also scored three goals in the knockout stage of the 2023 AFCON.

7. Mohammed Kudus and Victor Boniface - 21 goals

Kudus had a great first season at West Ham. Although David Moyes' team had a difficult season, the Ghanaian scored 18 goals in 48 games for the club. In Black Stars colours, he got three goals, including two at the 2023 AFCON.

Boniface is a strong contender to win the 2024 African Footballer of the Year award. He barely played for Nigeria but registered 21 goals and 11 assists in 34 games. Mind you; he missed nearly four months with an injury.

6. Simon Banza and Youssef En-Nesyri - 23 goals

Banza scored 23 goals in 41 appearances for Portuguese side SC Braga. He played at the 2023 AFCON but didn't score.

Sevilla and Morocco's En-Nesyri also scored 23 goals in all competitions and was the leading African scorer in La Liga. He scored once at the 2023 AFCON and two in friendly games.

5. Sadio Mane - 25 goals

The two-time African Footballer of the Year went on an exciting adventure in Saudi Arabia after leaving Bayern Munich. He recorded 19 goals and 11 assists at Al-Nassr in 2023/24. At Senegal, he scored six goals at Senegal, including one at the 2023 AFCON.

4. Michael Olunga - 28 goals

The Kenyan captain was on fire at Al Duhail in Qatar. He scored 15 goals in the Stars League, four in the AFC Champions League, and two in the Amri Cup. Olunga also scored seven goals for Harambee Stars.

3. Abderrazak Hamdallah - 29 goals

The Al-Ittihad striker had another impressive season in the Sudi Pro League. He scored 19 goals in 24 matches, with only Cristiano Ronaldo and Aleksandar Mitrovic scoring more. He scored 29 goals in 38 games in all competitions. he was not called up to the Moroccan squad for the 2023 AFCON.

2. Mohamed Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - 30 goals

Salah had an underwhelming season, but his numbers were good. At Liverpool, he registered 25 goals and 14 assists in 44 matches. He also scored five goals for Egypt.

Aubameyang reignited his career in France with Olympique Marseille. The Gabonese bagged 30 goals and provided 11 assists in 11 matches. He finished the season as the Europa League's top scorer.

1. Serhou Guirassy - 31 goals

The Stuttgart and Guinea striker had a season to remember. He bagged 28 Bundesliga goals in 28 matches in a remarkable season for the club. They finished second behind winners Leverkusen and in front of giants Bayern Munich. Guirassy's 2023 AFCON performance was underwhelming.

African top scorers in Saudi Arabia

Sports Brief earlier reported on the top 5 African top scorers in the 2023/24 Saudi Pro League.

Al-Fayha's Fashion Sakala and Abderrazak Hamdallah finished as the joint top scorers among African players. Veterans, Sadio Mane and Odion Ighalo, also made the list.
