Kaizer Chiefs have taken a new decision concerning Siyethemba Sithebe's contract situation with the club amid links with Premier Soccer League rivals.

The South African midfielder's contract expires at the end of next month, and his future at the club has been uncertain for some time now.

Sithebe was not part of Amakhosi team at the beginning of the 2023-24 season due to injury issues. He returned to the squad towards the end of the DStv Premiership campaign but couldn't help his side finish strongly.

According to a report by the South African, Kaizer Chiefs have decided to offer Sithebe a new contract despite uncertainty about his future at the club a few days ago.

Amakhosi is going through a phase where they need changes, but the ongoing flush-out at the club won't affect Sithebe as the Soweto Giants are keen on retaining the midfielder.

Sithebe's agent confirmed that other PSL teams were interested in his client, but their meeting with Kaizer Chiefs management weeks ago was successful, and they decided to offer the player a new contract.

"We met with the Chiefs management two weeks ago, and they confirmed they will give him a new contract," Sithebe's agent said.
"We were supposed to meet again this week, but it was found that Junior (Motaung) was out of the country. We will meet at the beginning of next week to finish everything."

The Soweto-based club's decision to keep Sithebe will be bad news for Chippa United, who are interested in signing the midfielder on a free transfer this summer.

Oswin Appollis on Kaizer Chiefs' radar

Sports Brief earlier reported that Kaizer Chiefs are ready to engage PSL rivals, AmaZulu FC, in a summer transfer battle for Polokwane City star, Oswin Appollis' signature.

The South African forward had a good season for Rise and Shine in the 2023/24 DStv Premiership campaign, scoring seven goals and adding five assists in 31 appearances.
