Finidi George has been told how to secure victory in Nigeria’s upcoming crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa next month in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.

The Super Eagles face a must-win game against Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana to revive their chances of making it to football’s biggest competition after dropping points in their first two games against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

According to Complete Sports, former Golden Eaglets’ head coach, Nduka Ugbade, has urged the newly appointed Super Eagles gaffer to approach the game against South Africa with a winning formula.

“Finidi knows his plans already. Because he was with Peseiro. But then, his ways might be different for Jose Peseiro in terms of approaching games.
“Having said that, it is important that the Super Eagles qualify for the 2026 World Cup, which we must first achieve by beating South Africa in Uyo. He must approach the game with a winning formula.”

Nigeria, who is third in Group C with two points behind Rwanda and South Africa, will hope to cut Bafana Bafana’s lead at the top of the standings when both teams meet on June 7 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Musa backs Nigeria to win South Africa

Meanwhile, Ahmed Musa has backed the Super Eagles to claim back-to-back victories in their upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying games against South Africa and Benin, Soccernet reports.

Nigeria’s most-capped player gave this verdict when analyzing the three-time African champions' chances of reviving their World Cup hopes with victories in both games in June.

Dropped points in both games for the Super Eagles could mean Nigeria might fail to qualify for two consecutive FIFA World Cup tournaments after missing out on the 2022 edition in Qatar.

Broos says Nigeria is scared

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that South Africa coach, Hugo Broos opined that the Super Eagles were scared when both teams played in the semi-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria narrowly secured a 4-2 penalty shootout victory against Bafana after the teams were deadlocked at 2-2 after extra time.

Broos claims the Nigerian team was wary of the threat posed by South Africa and frequently instructed their players to adopt a more defensive posture.
