Super Eagles will be without their main striker, Victor Osimhen, in their World Cup qualifying games against South Africa and the Benin Republic in June.

The Napoli star was initially included in the 23-man squad list for both qualifiers but was ruled out due to injury and replaced with Enugu Rangers defender Kenneth Igboke.

With Osimhen ruled out both ties, Sports Brief takes a look at Super Eagles forwards who can lead the attack against Bafana Bafana and the Cheetahs.

Nigerian players to lead attack in Osimhen's absence

1. Victor Boniface

Boniface missed out on the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to injury, but he's back to the team after recovering.

With Osimhen being ruled out of the World Cup qualifying games, Boniface is the best option in the striking position for Finidi George's side.

2. Ademola Lookman

The former Leicester City forward is one of the players being looked upon to turn up for the Super Eagles against South Africa and Benin after his heroic performance against Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Europa League final.

The Atalanta forward proved to be a dependable player even with Osimhen present at the 2023 AFCON, and he's expected to do the same in the Napoli striker's absence.

3. Kelechi Iheanacho

The former Manchester City forward is another attacker who is capable of leading the team in their next World Cup qualifying games.

He featured in Nigeria's friendly matches against Ghana and Mali, playing as a striking partner to Cyriel Dessers against the Black Stars and as a lone striker against the Eagles.

Finidi George can opt to play the Leicester City forward behind a striker or a winger or as a lone striker who will also be involved in play.

Finidi promises World Cup ticket

Sports Brief previously reported that Finidi vowed to qualify Nigeria for the FIFA World Cup in 2026 after missing the last competition in Qatar.

In his first address as the permanent head coach, the former Real Betis player outlined his ambitious plans.

On top of the list is leading Nigeria back to the biggest football competition in the world.
