President of the Cameroonian Football Federation, Samuel Eto'o, and newly-appointed coach, Marc Brys, were involved in an argument following their first meeting.

The meeting organised at the premises of FECAFOOT ended abruptly after confusion between the Ministry's Technical Advisor, Cyrille Tollo, Eto'o and the Belgium trainer erupted.

The Sports Ministry unilaterally appointed Brys as head coach and handed him a two-and-a-half-year deal without the consultation of the country's federation.

This has led to a power struggle between the two entities, leaving the country's football in disarray.

With two weeks left for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers to resume, players have been sent to two different locations for camping.

Meanwhile, in a video that has since gone viral on social media, the first meeting between Eto'o and the Ministry as well as the coach to look for a way forward ended in an unpleasant scene as the ex-Barcelona forward remonstrating at the other parties involved.

Eto'o initially welcomed Brys before asking for a personal meeting but Mr Tollo, the Ministry's rep decided against the Cameroon legend's request, leading to a heated exchange between the two.

“Here, you don’t have the floor. When I come to the ministry, I respect you. Here, I am the only boss. This is the last time! Call me security and you'll throw him out! This is the last time, you understand!," Eto'o told Mr Tollo, as quoted by 13 Football.

Later on, Eto'o reacted to comments by Brys after feeling disrespected by the gaffer, stating he is the president of FECAFOOT and has to be respected.

“Why are you talking to me like that?" asked Brys with Eto'o replying: “ I am the President. If you want to work with us... You are a coach because I appointed you. You are not a coach because someone else appointed you. You have made many mistakes. If you do not stay, I am obliged to question my executive committee as the law requires me to do. So, I beg you, once again, to please stay here.”

Cameroon players left in a state of confusion

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the players of Cameroon have been left in a state of confusion after receiving invites to two different locations ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June.

The Samuel Eto-led federation is yet to accept the appointment of Marc Brys as head coach of the Indomitable Lions following the Sports Ministry's decision to name the Belgian without consulting FECAFOOT.

This has led to a misunderstanding between the two entities who sent letters to players to report to different venues as preparations begin for the World Cup qualifiers.
