Victor Osimhen has been included in the 2023/24 Serie A Team of the Season despite Napoli’s inability to retain the league trophy in the just-concluded campaign in Italy.

The 25-year-old forward put up impressive numbers for the Partenopei this season, notching 15 goals and assisting three times in 24 games despite an injury-ravaged season.

According to the Sporting Sun, only Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez (with 24 goals) and Juventus’s Dusan Vlahovic (with 16 goals) scored more goals than Osimhen in the Serie A this season.

Both Martinez and Vlahovic would eventually join the Napoli star in the 23-man squad unveiled on the official social media channels of the Italian top flight league on Saturday, May 25.

Napoli failed miserably in their Serie A title defense this season, losing 11 times and winning only 13 of 37 league games to finish in 10th place, ahead of the season's final match.

Chukwueze and Lookman miss out

Meanwhile, AC Milan’s Samuel Chukwueze and Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman were conspicuously missing from the 23-man list containing the best players in Serie A this season.

Lookman scored 10 goals and assisted seven for Atalanta in the Italian top flight this season but was still deemed not good enough to make the prestigious list.

Chukwueze, on the other hand, only managed one goal and three assists in 24 appearances for AC Milan in Serie A this season while his teammates Theo Hernandez, Olivier Giroud, Rafael Leao, and Christian Pulisic were all included in the Serie A Team of the Season.

Napoli waiting on Osimhen offers

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Napoli are waiting for offers for Osimhen, who has been linked with Premier League clubs, Arsenal and Chelsea.

The 25-year-old Super Eagles star has been one of the best strikers in Europe since joining Napoli from Lille in 2020, despite a subdued campaign.

There has been growing interest in signing Osimhen since he led Napoli to their first Serie A title after over three decades in the 2022/23 season.
