Enyimba FC have appointed a new manager to replace Finidi George, who recently became the head coach of the Nigerian men’s national team.

The Aba-based club lost their coach to the Super Eagles earlier this month and are in the latter stages of the 2023-24 Nigerian Professional Football League.

The NPFL defending champions have promoted their assistant coach to replace Finidi.

Enyimba released an official statement on their website to confirm Olanrewaju Yemi Daniel as their new coach.

“In light of Coach George’s departure, Enyimba FC is pleased to announce the promotion of Assistant Manager Olanrewaju Yemi Daniel ‘Yema’ to the position of Head Coach until the end of the season,” the club stated.
“Yema has been an integral part of the coaching staff, demonstrating his commitment, expertise, and leadership qualities throughout his tenure.”

The Peoples Elephant confirmed that Yemi will coach the club for the rest of the season. The club hopes to retain the NPFL title and trust the former assistant manager to lead the squad to success.

“Yema will see out the remainder of the season, ensuring stability and continuity for Enyimba FC as they continue to compete. The club is confident in Yema’s abilities to lead the team to further success and achieve their goals,” the club added.

Enyimba are currently sitting third on the NPFL table with 53 points in 32 games; they are three points behind second-placed Remo Stars and four points behind league leaders Enugu Rangers.

Finidi set to drop EPL star

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Finidi is set to make more changes to his proposed squad for the World Cup qualifiers with Brentford star, Frank Onyeka, set to lose his place in Nigeria’s squad.

The Super Eagles’ preparation for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying games against South Africa and Benin has been rocked by injuries, forcing the tactician to make adjustments to his already submitted list of players invited for the game.
