Super Eagles vice-captain, Kenneth Omeruo has backed Nigeria teammate Ademola Lookman, to succeed compatriot Victor Osimhen as the 2024 CAF Africa Footballer of the Year.
Lookman stole the headlines in the Europa League final, grabbing a hat-trick as Atalanta secured a compelling 3-0 victory against Bayer Leverkusen to win the club’s first major trophy in 61 years.
According to Premium Times Nigeria, the 26-year-old Nigerian winger became the first player ever to score a hat-trick in a Europa League final as he claimed his first trophy in club football.
Lookman was third-time lucky in the Europa League after losing the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and Coppa Italia finals with Nigeria and Atalanta respectively in what has been a successful campaign for the former Everton player.

With the 2023/24 season set to wrap up, Nigerians believe no other player deserves to win the Africa Footballer of the Year award than the stellar Atalanta forward.
Omeruo backs Lookman for award
Omeruo was among the first to acknowledge Lookman’s brilliance in the Europa League final and has urged the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) to name the Atalanta star as the 2024 Africa Footballer of the Year, per Daily Post.

Lookman played a key role for Nigeria at the 2023 AFCON, netting three knock-out stage goals for the Super Eagles in the competition, and has also bagged 20 goals and eight assists in all competitions for Atalanta this season.
