Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Granit Xhaka has expressed the team's high spirits as they prepare for their Europa League match against Atalanta.

After an impressive 51-game unbeaten streak, Leverkusen will test their record in Wednesday's Europa League final, where Atalanta will try to end the German champions' run.

The two teams will meet in Dublin, with Xabi Alonso's men aiming to secure the second part of an extraordinary treble, while their Italian opponents strive for their first-ever European trophy.

Leverkusen have made history as the team to complete the entire season undefeated, surpassing a long-standing record for unbeaten streaks across all competitions.

Xhaka, radiating confidence before the final, shared insights into the team's success.

The former Arsenal captain, assured of his team's readiness, unveiled the secrets behind their impressive performance.

Xhaka on Leverkusen's success

Xhaka responded with humour when questioned about the team's calm demeanour ahead of the UEFA Europa League final.

The midfielder was asked why Leverkusen's players appear unfazed and consistently manage to score crucial late goals.

"We drink blood every morning. We don't feel it anymore,” the Switzerland international said via Beanyman Sports.

If Leverkusen are to clinch victory within regulation time, expect some late drama in Dublin.

Die Werkself have scored six goals in stoppage time during the 2023-24 Europa League, the highest by any team in a single European campaign.

Leverkusen vs Atalanta preview

Leverkusen last faced Atalanta in the 2021-22 Europa League, winning 3-2 at home before narrowly losing in Germany a week later, per Sports Mole.

However, the stakes will be significantly higher this Wednesday evening.

After triumphing over Marseille in the semifinals, topping Group D, and eliminating both the new Portuguese champions Sporting and Premier League giants Liverpool, La Dea now dreams of victory in their first-ever European final.

As the 11th Italian team to reach a continental final, the Bergamo club could make history by becoming the first Serie A side to win the Europa League, provided they succeed in this ultimate challenge.

Alonso opens up on benching Boniface

Sports Brief also reported that Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso explained why Victor Boniface has not been starting games following his comeback from injury.

Boniface and the team travelled to Dublin on Tuesday ahead of the final of the Europa League.

The Super Eagles star will be hoping he starts as seeks more game time before the season ends in Europe for the German champions.
