Stellenbosch FC manager, Steve Barker, has issued a strong warning to Mamelodi Sundowns about their interest in signing Jayden Adams from his team this summer.

Masandawana have been linked with the South African international since he represented the country at the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The Bafana Bafana star also had an impressive season for Stellies in the DStv Premiership, with the club courting a second-place finish with one round of games left.

Adams' performance this season has led to reports linking him with a move away from Western Cape-based club, with Sundowns being top on the list.

According to a report by iDiskiTimes, Barker commented on different clubs linked with the star and also explained what has changed with Stellies.

"The better you become as a football club, winning cups and being second players making Bafana, the more their value increases. So if clubs are going to come look for our players, I don't think it's going to be as easy as it was in the past," he said.

The former AmaZulu manager explained why it won't be easy to let Adams go and disclosed what Sundowns must do to sign the South African midfielder.

"Number one, from the economic and financial point of view, if you've got players sitting on the bench for Sundowns who cost R40 million, what reason is there that Jayden Adams is not worth that, maybe more?
"If Sundowns do [come], then they have to dig deep; that's the one thing."

Stellenbosch play Richards Bay FC on May 25 and will be aiming for a win to cement their second-place finish ahead of Orlando Pirates in the DStv Premiership.

Mokwena reacts to Adams transfer rumours

Sports Brief also previously reported that Rulani Mokwena commented on the rumours linking Adams to Mamelodi Sundowns in the summer.

Reports have suggested Masadawana inquired about Adams after the AFCON tournament but failed to reach an agreement with his club.
