A Saudi Pro League club have pulled out of the negotiating race for Nigerian goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, amid links with Kaizer Chiefs.

The Super Eagles star has been linked with several clubs after his top-notch performance for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The former Enyimba goalkeeper kept four clean sheets in the tournament but lost the Golden Glove award to South African international, Ronwen Williams.

The 27-year-old also had an impressive season with Chippa United in the DStv Premiership, keeping 10 clean sheets in 25 appearances for the Chilli Boys.

With all the world-class performances for club and country, the Nigerian international drew interest from Al-Ettifaq from the Saudi League, Queens Park Rangers from England, Premier Soccer League's Kaizer Chiefs and Union Saint-Gilloise from the Belgian League.

According to a report by Soccernet, the Commandos have ended negotiations with Chippa United for the Nigerian goalkeeper and pulled out of the race.

Reports also suggest that the Chilli Boys placed a £1.3 million (R30 million or ₦2.25 billion) price tag on the former Lobi Stars shot-stopper.

The price tag is not a problem for Al-Ettifaq, but the exaggeration of the negotiations by Chippa United was reportedly the reason the Saudi League side pulled out.

With Steven Gerrard's side pulling out of the race, Amakhosi has the chance to pursue their transfer target in the summer.

The Glamour Boys are currently in the transfer market searching for a replacement for Itumeleng Khune, with the club bidding the South African goalkeeper farewell after 25 years of service.

Nwabali linked with Kaizer Chiefs

Sports Brief earlier reported that Nwabali was barely known before the AFCON 2023, where he made his name with Nigeria.

Chippa United's goalkeeping coach recently disclosed that the Nigerian international wanted a move to Chiefs, and his childhood dream was to play for Amakhosi.

The 27-year-old has arguably been the second-best goalkeeper in South Africa in the last two years behind Mamelodi Sundowns star Williams.
