The Bafana Bafana captain has played 19 games in the DStv Premiership and kept 14 clean sheets. His performances have led Masandawana to their seventh straight PSL title.

Last season, his teammate, Teboho Mokoena, was named Footballer of the Season, while Williams took home the Goalkeeper of the Season award.

In the 2022/23 season, the 32-year-old broke Moeneeb Josephs' record after registering 18 clean sheets. The Orlando Pirates legend kept 17 clean sheets in the 2009/10 season, per iDiski Times.

The former SuperSport United star was the Goalkeeper of the Tournament at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. His heroic performances fired South Africa to a third-place finish.

Bvuma makes a case for Williams

The Chiefs goalie believes the Sundowns shot-stopper has done enough to win the award.

“For me, Ronwen has done more than enough looking at his performances from the previous season to this season...For me, I don’t see a need for him to not get this award, he has worked very hard," via Far Post.

Bvuma added that every goalie would love to share a dressing room with him. He was named alongside Williams in Bafana Bafana's preliminary squad for the upcoming matches.

“This is someone that obviously every goalkeeper would want to share a dressing room with him, obviously in the national team and compete with him.”

The Amakhosi star has kept seven clean sheets in the league this season in 16 matches.

Mokwena names his contenders

Sports Brief earlier reported that Sundowns coach, Rulani Mokwena, included Williams in his picks for the Footballer of the Season award.

He also named Teboho Mokoena, Lucas Ribeiro, Marcelo Allende, Patrick Maswanganyi, and Jayden Adams.
