Real Madrid defender Eder Militao has said that Vinicius Jr should win the Ballon d’Or ahead of his teammate Jude Bellingham.

Los Blancos commenced their preparations for the Champions League final in impressive fashion against Alaves, with Bellingham and Vinicius scoring in a commanding 5-0 victory on Tuesday.

The Englishman contributed with one goal and two assists, while the Brazilian secured a precise brace, as they established a foreboding tone for Borussia Dortmund ahead of the final on June 1.

After the game, Militao was questioned about his preference for the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner between Bellingham and Vinicius.

He replied via Sportskeeda:

“Both great but Vinicius. Vinicius for Ballon d’Or? He’s the best, if he keeps going he can win it soon,” Militao said.

Throughout this season, the Brazilian winger has featured in 37 matches across various competitions for Madrid registering 23 goals and 11 assists.

Meanwhile, Bellingham has participated in 40 appearances across different competitions, netting 23 goals and providing 12 assists.

Change in Ballon d'Or rules

Sports Brief has previously reported that the Ballon d'Or rules were changed in 2021, just after Messi had won his record seventh title.

The award switched to a season-based format rather than the calendar year and the vote was reduced to the top 100 FIFA-ranked nations.

Carlo Ancelotti speaks out on the Ballon d'Or

Sports Brief also reported that Carlo Ancelotti, buoyed by Real Madrid's latest European success, has backed Vini for the 2024 Ballon d'Or Award.

After missing out on the top three last year, Vini Jr. is poised to secure a podium finish this year, propelled by his La Liga triumph and reaching the Champions League final.

However, he faces stiff competition from teammate Bellingham, who has dazzled in his debut season at Real Madrid.
