According to a report by French media outlet, L'Equipe, Napoli are pushing to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta from Crystal Palace as the Super Eagles star's replacement.

The 26-year-old striker is having a great season with the Eagles in the Premier League and his recent performances have not gone unnoticed by top European clubs.

The former Mainz star has scored 13 goals for the London-based club in the English top flight this season and was named the club's 2023/24 Player of the Season.

Mateta recently confirmed that he would be meeting with the Crystal Palace board of directors and his coach, Oliver Glasner, at the end of the season to finalise his future.

"We will see," the French striker cryptically commented.

Osimhen among Napoli’s greatest strikers

Sports Brief also previously reported that in Osimhen's four seasons with Napoli, he scored 76 goals and made 18 assists in 131 appearances, placing him 13th on the club's list of all-time scorers.

The late great Argentine World Cup winner, Diego Maradona, scored 115 goals in 257 appearances for the former Serie A champions and is, without a doubt, the best player to wear the club's crest.

Former Belgian international, Dries Mertens' 148 goals make him the top scorer, while Lorenzo Insigne bagged 122 goals in 434 appearances and Marek Hamsik is third with 121 goals in 520 games.
