Legendary Real Madrid shot-stopper, Iker Casillas, has offered his perspective on the club's goalkeeping dilemma ahead of the UEFA Champions League final on June 1.

As Los Blancos prepares to contend for a record-extending 15th title against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium, the spotlight has fallen on their choice of goalkeeper.

The Spanish giants navigated past Bayern Munich in the semi-finals but are grappling with a decision between Thibaut Courtois and Andriy Lunin for the crucial match against the German giants.

Courtois, Madrid's established No. 1, endured a lengthy absence this season due to an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament and then the meniscus of his right knee during recovery, per ESPN.

In his absence, Kepa Arrizabalaga, on loan from Chelsea, initially filled the void but was later displaced by Ukrainian goalkeeper, Lunin, who has been outstanding.

With Courtois back in contention, keeping the post in the last two La Liga games, manager Carlo Ancelotti faces a challenging decision regarding who should start in goal for the final.

While the Belgian boasts a stellar track record, including a standout performance in Madrid's last Champions League triumph, Casillas believes that Lunin's exceptional displays this season warrant his selection.

As a revered figure at Real Madrid, Casillas has drawn from his own experience of winning three UCL finals with the club, lending weight to his recommendation of Lunin for the pivotal encounter against Dortmund.

"I think Lunin should continue in the final," the retired goalkeeper remarked, as quoted by MadridXtra.
"Courtois doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone; he will be the best goalkeeper in the world again, but he has recently recovered. Lunin has shown he is a guarantee."

Real Madrid coach and president prefer Courtois for final

As the Champions League final at Wembley approaches, the White Angels are already devising strategies for their showdown against Dortmund, Sports Brief reported.

According to reports from Spain, Carlo Ancelotti and club president, Florentino Perez, are reportedly discussing a significant change in the starting line-up for the final.

Real Madrid are contemplating deploying Courtois in goal to bolster their chances against the Black and Yellow despite Lunin's exceptional performances recently.
