Manchester United's struggles this season continued on Sunday, May 12, as they fell 1-0 to Arsenal in their Premier League clash.

The loss marked the Red Devils' second consecutive defeat this week, leaving them four shy of a lowest-ever top flight points total.

To be fair, Erik ten Hag's squad was depleted, with seven starting players missing, including Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.

Nevertheless, the decisive moment came when the Gunners' Leandro Trossard scored the only goal of the game, capitalising on a mistake by midfielder, Casemiro, as per the Guardian.

Ten Hag later defended his decision to start the Brazilian at centre-back, citing a lack of options. The manager also praised the performance of Amad Diallo, who made his first United start in 886 days and earned a standing ovation before being forced off injured.

The Dutchman then attributed United's defeat against Arsenal to injuries and a lack of concentration but praised his team's competitiveness overall.

"When you’re missing seven starting players; we are competitive with one of the best teams in the league - it’s about execution. When you don’t have the right attitude or the right press, it makes it easy for any opponent. That situation is a midfielder making a small mistake with hard consequences," he explained, as reported by the Daily Post.

With two games remaining, United's season is on the line. If they fail to surpass their lowest-ever Premier League points total and lose to Manchester City in the FA Cup final, ten Hag's future at the club may be in jeopardy.

Old Trafford leaks rainwater after Arsenal defeat

Sports Brief also previously reported that Old Trafford leaked rainwater after the team lost to Arsenal in their Premier League game.

United’s home stadium, one of English football’s most iconic grounds, has been criticised because of its current 'terrible' state.

Based on fans' experience, this thing has happened on matchdays in the past and is said to show the Glazer family's lack of care.
