Fulham of England left-back Bassey played a pivotal role for Nigeria during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where Nigeria finished as runners-up.
The 24-year-old featured in all seven Super Eagles matches at the continental showpiece and registered an assist in their 2-0 win over Cameroon in the second round.

Bassey's mother, who was on the Ivory Coast throughout the duration of the tournament, disclosed that she remains his No.1 supporter.
Ebere stated that she has always prayed for her son, who is now valued at around €22.5m, as per Football Transfers.
Asked what kind of woman she would love to see her son marry, Ebere replied Sports Brief:
"I am not going to choose a wife for him. He has to make his own choice of wife. My prayer as a mother is for him to get a good girl.
"I won't mind where she comes from as long as she is good. Not like all these gold diggers who would want only his wealth.
"I do not stop praying for him to have a good woman who would help him in his career because if he has a good wife who is supportive, he will go far in his career."
