The Super Eagles will open camp six days before their crucial games against South Africa and the Benin Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers slated for next month.

Nigeria is desperate to salvage its dwindling hopes of qualifying for football’s biggest international competition after a slow start to the qualifiers that has seen the team drop points in their first two games.

According to Complete Sports, the Super Eagles will open its camp on June 1st in Abuja for the crucial World Cup qualifiers with all invited players expected to arrive on the opening day.

Newly appointed national team coach, Finidi George, has reportedly sent out invites to the players expected to prosecute the crunch games against Bafana Bafana and the Squirrels.

The Super Eagles are presently third behind Rwanda and South Africa in Group C with two points from their opening two games, after picking up draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

NFF set to release Super Eagles list

Meanwhile, the list of invited Super Eagles players for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and the Benin Republic is set to be released by the Nigeria Football Federation.

The list which reportedly contains 35 players and was drafted by Finidi is set to be released next week by the NFF as preparations kickstart in earnest for the qualifiers, per Daily Post.

Nigeria will tackle South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Friday, June 7, before traveling to Ivory Coast a few days later to take on Benin Republic.

Super Eagles plagued with injuries

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the injuries to Super Eagles players are getting long as defender, Bright Osayi-Samuel, is the latest national team player battling with injuries after he suffered an injury to his left ankle.

The 26-year-old was substituted in the 52nd minute of Fenerbahçe’s league clash against Konyaspor after the medical team confirmed he would not be able to continue in the fixture.

Osayi-Samuel joins the likes of William Troost-Ekong, Moses Simon, and Zaidu Sanusi who have all been ruled out of the World Cup qualifiers with varying degrees of injuries.
