Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe leaned forward with his head bowed and hands on his thighs.

Another Champions League aspiration with the French giants had come to an end, thwarted by the clinical performance of Borussia Dortmund.

Across both legs of the semi-final, the German side prevented the Frenchman from finding the net, sealing their victory with identical 1-0 scores.

Mats Hummels secured the only goal at Parc des Princess on Tuesday night as Dortmund advanced 2-0 on aggregate to the final at Wembley next month, GOAL reported.

Hummels' decisive header came five minutes into the second half at the Parc des Princes, leaving PSG unable to mount a comeback.

Despite hitting the woodwork four times throughout the match, luck was not on the home side's side.

Mbappe's reactions after PSG's elimination

After the game, Mbappe accepted his share of the blame for not being able to reproduce his magic in front of goal.

"I tried to help my team the best I could. It wasn't enough. When you're talking about efficiency at both ends, I think I'm the first in question,'' the 25-year-old said via Washington Post.
"I'm the one who should score the goals and make the difference. I have no problem with that, the first person who should have scored tonight is me."

What's next for Mbappe?

Mbappe remained silent on questions regarding his future. Many anticipate his next destination to be Real Madrid, a club that boasts 14 Champions League trophies and could potentially secure a 15th if they prevail over Bayern Munich in the other semifinal.

Los Blancos have previously attempted to entice Mbappe in 2021 but PSG rejected a bid from the Spanish giants for the 2018 World Cup winner, per the Guardian.

Despite signing a new contract with PSG at that time, the Frenchman opted not to extend it for an additional year, but he has recently informed the French club of his decision to depart at the end of the season.

Mbappe told he can't win 2024 Ballon d'Or

Sports Brief also reported that Mbappe's hopes for the Ballon d'Or were severely hampered by Paris Saint-Germain's unexpected elimination at the semi-final stage of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.

Considered a top contender for the prestigious award this year, Mbappe's prospects would have greatly benefited had PSG advanced to the final.
