Michael Olise scored twice as Crystal Palace beat Manchester United 4-0 at Selhurst Park in Monday night football.

The defeat was another damaging result as Erik ten Hag struggles to save face ahead of expected changes from the new controlling ownership at the club in the summer.

The hosts were quickly off the blocks, with Olise slaloming his way past a couple of changes to fire his side ahead in the 12th minute.

Manchester United's defensive woes grew apparent as the minutes ticked by, as Jean-Philippe Mateta eased his way past the returning Jonny Evans. The in-form French striker then fired a ferocious pile driver past Andre Onana to put Palace two to the good five minutes from the break.

Rasmus Hojlund and Casemiro had goals disallowed for a foul and offside, respectively, before Tyrick Mitchell put the game beyond the visitors' reach.

Michael Olise's second goal

A wonderfully worked corner routine saw Adam Wharton swing back in the cross from an initial half clearance to find Joachim Andersen on the back post. The Danish defender squared the ball inside the six-yard area to find Mitchell unmarked.

The best of the bunch came through Olise. Daniel Munoz hassled Casemiro off the ball near the byline before finding his teammate on the edge of the area. The 22-year-old let fly with a scrambling Onana, failing to keep the shot out.

The defeat leaves Manchester United in eighth place on the Premier League table, level on points with Chelsea but with an inferior goal difference. Crystal Palace are up to 43 points, which brings their point haul to 18 out of a possible 33 points since Oliver Glasner replaced Roy Hodgson.

Premier League Golden Boot race

Sports Brief has also reported that Erling Haaland took charge of the Premier League Golden Boot race.

The Norwegian scored four goals in Manchester City's 5-1 win over Wolves, bringing his tally to 25.

Chelsea's Cole Palmer follows with 21 goals, one better than Newcastle United's Alexander Isak.
