Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Rulani Mokwena, isn’t too worried about Peter Shalulile’s form at the moment.

The Namibian striker has struggled for form and with injuries this season, netting just 12 goals in 34 games in all competitions.

Peter Shalulile missed a penalty against Stellenbosch, but Rulani Mokwena isn't too concerned.

Despite being the club’s most prolific scorer in recent seasons and failing to hit those heights this season, Mokwena still has complete faith in the marksman.

Shalulile misses penalty kick for Sundowns

The Sundowns manager backed the Namibian after he failed to convert from the penalty spot during Masandawana’s Nedbank Cup semi-final against Stellenbosch.

Sundowns were leading 2-0 when they were awarded a penalty. Shalulile, who has not scored in the competition this season, blazed his shot high and wide.

Stellies then scored not long afterwards, setting up a nervy finish to the game.

Mokwena praises Shalulile after wayward penalty

Speaking after the game, the Sundowns coach commended the Namibian for stepping up to take the kick, GOAL reported.

"It’s bitter-sweet. I look at it and say to myself I want us to score the penalty, and I’m very proud of Peter, with a very difficult run still putting up his hand saying he wants to take it," Mokwena said.

He added that he was also proud of the other players who sacrificed and allowed Shalulile to take the kick.

The miss, while allowing Stellies back into the game, did little to affect the overall result as Sundowns still booked their place in the final.

They will now face defending champions, Orlando Pirates, on June 1 at the Mbombela Stadium as they look to secure a treble this season.

Mokwena comments on Shalulile’s form

The coach's latest comments are not the first time he has commented on his striker's struggles in front of goal.

Mokwena previously admitted concern for Shalulile and that the Sundowns star hasn’t hit his stride this season.

Shalulile has won two PSL Golden Boots but has found it tough going this season, Sports Brief reported earlier.
