How Barcelona handed La Liga to Real Madrid

However, Madrid's title hopes hinged on Girona's ability to overcome Barcelona.

At halftime, it seemed unlikely, with Barca holding a 2-1 lead thanks to goals from Andreas Christensen and Robert Lewandowski, GOAL reports.

But football's unpredictable nature came to the fore in the second half. Girona staged a remarkable comeback, netting two quick goals to overturn the deficit.

Portu's second goal of the night, in the 74th minute, sealed a 4-2 victory for Michel's side.

As noted by Eurosport, this completed a league double over their Catalan rivals and secured Real Madrid's triumph in the process.

Dressed in all-black attire, the players erupted in wild celebration, prompting the usually composed 64-year-old coach to wade through the crowd and join in.

Upon reaching his players, Ancelotti's calm demeanour gave way to excitement as he jumped around like a kid amidst the revelry.

Meanwhile, Sports Brief reported that after losing out on La Liga, FC Barcelona put aside their historic rivalry to share important sporting news with Real Madrid.

Despite clinching the Spanish top-flight title, the Catalan giants had to pass the torch to their El Clasico rivals after a drama-filled season.

Amid the disappointment and the significant league implications of their loss, Barcelona gracefully acknowledged their rivals' recent success, offering congratulations via social media.
