The appointment of Finidi George as the coach of the Super Eagles continues to generate significant conversations across Nigeria’s footballing circles.

The announcement by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which appeared to have taken many fans and stakeholders by surprise, was made without the inclusion of any assistant manager or member of the backroom staff.

However, members of the NFF technical committee have openly declared that the newly appointed coach will be given the freedom to appoint his desired assistants himself.

In light of the unfolding events, talks have begun to surface about the possibility of Finidi naming other candidates who were considered for the head coach role, including Emmanuel Amunike and Daniel Amokachi, as members of his backroom staff.

However, a recent report from Score Nigeria has hinted that the 53-year-old looks poised to discard the option of working with the duo.

Finidi to discard working with Amunike and Amokachi

According to the report, the newly appointed manager is inclined to forego the idea of including both Amokachi and Amunike in his coaching team.

The report further emphasises that despite their past as former teammates at the national team level, there seems to be an underlying issue of distrust between them.

Additionally, it highlights that the new manager is seeking to collaborate with individuals whom he believes will be loyal to his cause.

The report concludes by suggesting that Finidi could even consider the possibility of appointing a foreign assistant to join him during his tenure as coach.

Finidi explains his playing style

Sports Brief in a previous report stated that Coach Finidi had detailed his tactics and style of play in a recent interview.

The 53-year-old who was named coach following the departure of Jose Peseiro, stressed the importance of playing a very expansive footballing approach and a high-octane attacking style of play.

The manager also expressed his preference for a four-player defensive setup.
