Super Eagles forwards, Victor Boniface and Ademola Lookman, could meet in the Europa League final this season after their respective clubs got decent results in the semi-final's first leg.

Atalanta earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Ligue 1 giants Marseille in France with Lookman coming on as a second-half substitute for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

According to Premium Times, Boniface was an unused substitute for Bayer Leverkusen as they continued their unbeaten run this season with a 2-0 victory against AS Roma in Italy.

Both results mean both Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen have taken a huge advantage heading into the reverse semi-final fixture scheduled for May 9, after their positive results.

Bayer Leverkusen remains on course to win the treble this season after clinching the Bundesliga title in Germany while the Europa League is Atalanta’s only hope for silverware this campaign.

Boniface rules out Leverkusen exit

Meanwhile, Boniface has dismissed speculations about a possible exit from Bayer Leverkusen when the summer transfer window opens after being linked with several European top clubs, Punch NG reports.

The 23-year-old forward has scored 11 Bundesliga goals this season and was instrumental for Xabi Alonso’s team on their way to their first German league title in 120 years.

Napoli, Juventus, AC Milan, and West Ham are some of the few clubs that have been rumoured to have placed Boniface on their wanted list with the Hammers reportedly willing to smash their club transfer record to sign the Super Eagles striker in the summer.

Bayer Leverkusen preserves unbeaten record

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Bayer Leverkusen defeated AS Roma 2-0 in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday night to preserve their unbeaten record this season.

Florian Wirtz opened the scoring for Bayer Leverkusen in the 28th minute after a lethal counter-attack before Robert Andrich sealed the win with a superbly struck long-range effort in the 73rd minute.

With the win over Roma, Leverkusen have now extended their unbeaten streak in all competitions this season to 47 matches.
