Robert Lewandowski orchestrated a remarkable second-half comeback for Barcelona, netting a sensational hattrick, which included a majestic free-kick, to secure a thrilling victory over Valencia at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

The Polish goal-scoring maestro, who recently expressed his desire to extend his tenure at Barca, inspired his side to overturn a deficit and claim a vital win against Los Che on Monday, April 29.

Despite falling behind in the 22nd minute, Valencia rallied back with a quickfire brace, exploiting defensive vulnerabilities to take a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.

Lewandowski inspires fightback, nets freekick

Lewandowski seized control as the match hung in the balance, equalising in the 49th minute after being set up by Ilkay Gundogan. With just eight minutes remaining, he completed the comeback with a clinical finish.

To cap off his virtuoso performance, the 35-year-old unleashed a sublime free-kick to secure a memorable victory for La Blaugrana in a captivating six-goal encounter.

His trio of goals elevates his La Liga goal tally to 16 from 30 appearances, per Transfermarkt, positioning him just three goals shy of the league's top scorer, Artem Dovbyk of Girona.

While the win narrows Real Madrid's lead at the league's summit, the margin remains substantial. Los Blancos maintain an 11-point advantage with only five matches remaining, beIN reports.

How fans reacted to Lewandowski's performance

@NealGardner_ saluted the ex-Bayern Munich star:

"Lewandowski with the free-kick of dreams to seal the hat-trick, fair bloody play! He’s done everything you’d want your striker to do amid this mess of a situation. Thank you!"

@ama_agyiewa wrote:

"Amazing."

@n_mandela1 added:

"My striker."

@Khalibrantjnr played on Lewandowski's name with his goals:

"Lewangoalski."

Lewandowski not giving up on Ballon d'Or hopes

In a previous publication, Sports Brief reported that Robert Lewandowski maintains his belief that he deserved the Ballon d'Or in 2020 and is open to accepting the award, even if it arrives later than anticipated.

Undeterred by the passage of time, the Polish striker remains optimistic that his past contributions will be recognized, raising the prospect of a retrospective honour.

He stresses that he would graciously accept acknowledgement for his achievements, regardless of when it occurs.
