Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has addressed his critical mistake against Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday's North London Derby.

The Gunners seemed to be cruising with a comfortable three-goal lead before the Spanish keeper's error opened the door for Spurs to mount a comeback.

Mikel Arteta's charges had surged ahead with goals from Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz, along with an unfortunate own goal by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the 15th minute.

How David Raya nearly cost Arsenal valuable points

Raya's mishap occurred with about half an hour left on the clock.

He mistakenly chipped the ball directly to Cristian Romero, who capitalised on the error from the edge of the box to narrow the hosts' deficit.

Subsequently, Son Heung-min converted a spot-kick, awarded after Declan Rice fouled Ben Davies in the penalty area, intensifying the pressure on Arsenal in the closing stages.

Nonetheless, the Gunners, chasing their first Premier League title since the 2003–04 season, managed to fend off Tottenham's late surge, securing a hard-fought 3-2 victory, per the BBC.

Raya reflects on his mistake

Reflecting on his blunder in a post-match interview with Sky Sports, Raya acknowledged that mistakes are inherent to the game but assured Arsenal supporters that he would glean valuable lessons from the experience.

"If you don’t make mistakes, you don’t learn. It’s part of football. Everybody makes mistakes," he said as quoted by Metro.
"The thing is, when the ‘keeper makes a mistake, is normally it is a goal, and it’s more seen, more talked [about] compared to a striker missing a tap-in or whatever.
"But it’s just part of football, and you learn from that. That’s the most important thing. You just learn from the mistakes."

Arteta optimistic about Arsenal's EPL title chase

Sports Brief also reported that Mikel Arteta is optimistic about Arsenal's Premier League title prospects following their hard-fought 3-2 victory over Tottenham.

The Spanish tactician remains confident that the Gunners will maintain their competitive edge until the end of the season, making Manchester City work hard for the title.

When asked if Arsenal has what it takes to be champions, Arteta responded affirmatively, stating that he has seen their championship mentality every day since the beginning of the season.
