Liverpool and Feyenoord are working to reach an agreement over the compensation fee to release Arne Slot from his contract and enable him to move to England.

After multiple media reports claimed he had become the forerunner to replace Jurgen Klopp, the manager confirmed yesterday that he is keen on the Liverpool job.

He led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title last season, but only a few past winning managers have sustained their hype after leaving the Netherlands' top-flight league.

Sports Brief looks at the last five managers who won the Dutch title and how they fared after, as first analysed by Planet Football.

Last 5 Eredivisie winning managers

1. Erik ten Hag

Per Transfermarkt, Erik ten Hag returned Ajax to the top of the Dutch league after missing out on the title for five years. He won three titles before leaving for Manchester United. He broke the club's trophy drought, but his second season has left him on the verge of being sacked.

2. Phillip Cocu

Before moving abroad, the former Netherlands international won three titles for his hometown club. After short spells with Turkish side Fenerbahce and Championship side Derby County, his career dipped afterwards. He last managed in 2023 but was sacked by Vitesse Arnhem after eight points from 12 games.

3. Giovanni van Bronckhorst

The former Barcelona star had a successful spell in charge of Feyenoord, winning five trophies including one league title. He spent a season in the Chinese Super League afterwards. He then succeeded Steven Gerrard at his former club, Rangers, leading them to the 2022 Europa League final. He was sacked months later and hasn't managed since then.

4. Frank de Boer

According to Jose Mourinho, De Boer is the worst manager in the Premier League's history. Between 2011 and 2014, he won four consecutive titles in charge of Ajax. After leaving Ajax in 2016, he managed Inter Milan for 85 days before he was sacked.

He managed only five games at Crystal Palace before he was sacked. He has a moderately successful spell in the MLS with Atlanta United. His last position was at UAE club Al Jazira.

5. Steve McLaren

The Englishman led FC Twente to their first title in 2010. His managerial career dipped afterwards. His spells at Nottingham Forest, Wolfsburg, Derby, and Newcastle were not highly successful. He is currently Ten Hag's assistant at Manchester United.

Five facts about Arne Slot

Sports Brief analysed five facts about Arne Slot after the Dutch tactician emerged as the favourite to land the Liverpool managerial job to replace Jurgen Klopp.

One fact that raises eyebrows is that he has never experienced football outside of his country. He spent the entirety of his playing and managerial career in Holland.
