Manchester United's minority owner and controller of football affairs, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, will oversee his first transfer window this summer after buying a 27.7% stake in the club.

The INEOS chairman reportedly plans a major overhauling of the squad, with some senior players and big earners set to depart this summer.

Sports Brief looks at seven players who should retain their spot in the team next season, as first analysed by Mirror UK.

Players Manchester United must retain

1. Bruno Fernandes

The Portuguese magnifico, as he is fondly referred to, has been the club's best player since joining from Sporting CP in January 2020. He was named the permanent captain at the start of this season. His experience and leadership are vital to the team's rebuilding.

2. Lisandro Martinez

The Argentine centre-back struggled with injuries this season but was the club's most reliable defensive performer last year. He is an aggressive tackler and very good on the ball, which is key to what modern football managers demand.

3. Kobbie Mainoo

The talented youngster has been one of the team's standout performers this season. Mainoo has a contract until 2027, but the club are already in talks to tie their prized asset down for a more extended period, as reported by Metro UK. He is most likely to be in England's squad for Euro 2024.

4. Alejandro Garnacho

Garnacho has been with the first team since last season but stepped up into a full first-team member this season. He has been crucial for ten Hag and proved his versatility by playing on both flanks in attack. He has scored crucial goals this season.

5. Andre Onana

Onana is a valuable asset to teams wanting to play modern football, he is a brilliant passer and press resistant. Although he has conceded 74 goals this season due to facing too many shots, he should remain in goal for the club next season.

6. Rasmus Hojlund

United paid £72 million to sign the striker from Atalanta. He has 14 goals in all competitions this season, including eight in the Premier League, a number below what the forward of a top team should get, but he will get better with passing time.

7. Mason Mount

Mount left Chelsea to join United for an initial fee of £55mil, which could rise with add-ons. Injuries have hampered his first season, but from next season, the fans should see what their number 7 is capable of doing on the pitch.

Seven players Ratcliffe could sell

Sports Brief previously analysed seven players Manchester United could sell in Ratcliffe's first transfer window, including fan favourite and academy graduate Marcus Rashford.

The club must raise a significant amount to fund transfers and comply with profit and sustainability rules. This would be achieved if some big earners are let go.
