Former Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba, has arrived in Senegal for a visit of the West African nation.

The Juventus midfielder touched down in Dakar on Wednesday and travelled to the northwestern town of Tivaouane, a popular city for the Sufi-Muslim Tijaniyah sect.

It is unclear why Pogba is in Senegal, but it looks like the France international is on a religious pilgrimage after visiting a famous mosque in Tivaouane.

In a video shared on social media, Pogba was spotted in the company of some clerics as he sought knowledge about the popular Tijaniyah Muslims.

Tivaouane is Senegal's centre for the Sufi-Muslim Tijaniyah sect and is the site of an annual pilgrimage for Tijani Muslims.

Pogba is a devoted Muslim and practices the religion with all seriousness, having performed the Islamic pilgrimage in Mecca, known as Umrah. He has in various interviews made references to his belief in Islam.

The dynamic midfielder is currently out of action due to injury and a four-year ban, which he is preparing to appeal after he was accused of a doping offense, as reported by The Guardian.

Pogba is using the opportunity to acquire more Islamic knowledge, something he says brings him peace.

Paul Pogba reacts after four-year ban

The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner took to social media to express shock and disappointment after the announcement of his ban over doping offenses.

He wrote on Instagram: “I have today been informed of the Tribunale Nazionale Antidoping’s decision and believe the verdict is incorrect. I am sad, shocked and heartbroken that everything I have built in my professional playing career has been taken away from me.
“When I am free of legal restrictions the full story will become clear, but I have never knowingly or deliberately taken any supplements that violate anti-doping regulations.

Pogba spends time with Zouma in London

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Paul Pogba travelled to London to watch Kurt Zouma and his West Ham United teammates in their Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspurs.

The former Manchester United is close friends with the West Ham captain and took the opportunity of being out of action to support the defender.

Pogba is serving a four-year ban for doping offenses.
