The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are diligently working to secure a new coach for the Super Eagles ahead of the June international window.

The West African nation have been without a permanent manager since Jose Peseiro's departure at the end of February.

The federation's technical committee is tasked with selecting the new coach, but reports suggest they have struggled to reach a consensus on a candidate.

While some committee members favour an indigenous coach, others are reported to prefer a foreign manager.

However, amid the ongoing debate and delay in appointing Nigeria's next coach, former Super Eagles midfielder, Seyi Olofinjana, has offered advice to the technical committee on selecting the best candidate for the national team.

Olofinjana advises NFF on the next Super Eagles coach

In an interview reported by Footballlive.ng, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers star shared his thoughts on the current divide among committee members.

"I’m always very careful when I discuss this topic. Anytime I'm asked, you need to be very cautious. The way I see our football is like any company. There is no company without a vision of what it wants to achieve. Every major company has a vision."

Highlighting what the technical committee should prioritise in appointing a manager that fits the national team's vision, he continued:

"What does the NFF want to achieve with our football team? Because once we know that, we can determine which coach fits our goals. It shouldn’t be about someone's rich CV, experience, age, or past achievements. What do we need to achieve? That should guide the choice of coach."

Emphasising the importance of the NFF making the right decisions, the 43-year-old stated:

"The journey of a thousand miles starts with a step. If our goal is 100 and we are at 20, how do we reach 25? How do we reach 30? We might hire a coach now who can take us to 30, and then maybe in two or three years, they leave. But as long as we can measure progress as communicated by the NFF, we can track our progress."

Olofinjana's words appear to be a rallying cry to the committee members to ensure the Super Eagles are coached by one of the best available hands.

It remains to be seen if the words of the former midfielder will be heeded. Reports suggest that the Nigerian team could have their next coach appointed before the end of April.

Odemwingie warns NFF against naming indigenous coaches

Sports Brief in another report stated former Nigeria attacker, Peter Odemwingie, has warned the NFF against appointing an indigenous manager.

The 42-year-old stressed the advantages a foreign manager poses to the current crop of Super Eagles players.
