The Premier League was last weekend treated to a powerful and no-holds-barred statement from Nottingham Forest following the conclusion of their game against Everton.

The Nuno Espirito-coached side was angered that Anthony Taylor and the VAR, Stuart Atwell, had not deemed either of three separate Ashley Young incidents as penalties.

The 2-0 loss, in the grand scheme of things, was another blow to their survival hopes. In the statement, they argued that Atwell was a Luton Town fan - a fact that they had communicated to the referee body, PGMOL.

"We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn't change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times."

In light of the above statement, Sports Brief sought to understand if the current crop of Premier League referees have any known allegiances to any English club.

Why Michael Oliver doesn't officiate Newcastle United games

In a separate report, Michael Oliver explained he cannot officiate a game where a team he supports is playing. The referee is a boyhood Newcastle fan.

"We have to declare if we have an allegiance to any club or if a family member works at a club. You can't do any match involving that team, and I can't do Sunderland, either, for obvious reasons."

His counterpart, Anthony Taylor, is a fan of National League side, Altrincham.

Oliver and Taylor are among the leading referees in England. They are the only centre referees selected from England by UEFA to be a part of the upcoming Euro 2024 in Germany.

Below is a list of which club every Premier League referee supports. The Mirror indicates that 27 referees have taken care of a game this season, including Rebecca Welch and Sam Alisson, who made history as the first female and first black referees, respectively.

The list also included the clubs, if any, the referees are not allowed to officiate in case of local rivalries.

Why Branthwaite's goals would be disallowed in new EPL change

Sports Brief has also reported why Jarrad Branthwaite's goal against Liverpool was not disallowed.

The Everton man was among the goals as the Reds were dealt a blow to Jurgen Klopp's title hopes.

However, experts have explained that the goal might not have been allowed in other circumstances.
